About

What?
The Penfield Mood Organ helps you to rewrite your mood. You replace your current state of mind with a new one.

In Penfield terminology, writing a mood is described as ‘dialing’ for a mood.

Why?
Use the Penfield to dial a mood that will help you with your current activity or aspiration.

How?
Dialing your very first mood can be daunting. To help yourself, dial the default mood: The desire to dial.

Where?
The Penfield runs on twitter. Moods can be dialled via web, computer, and mobile phone.

Privacy: Set your twitter to private to hide your moods.

When?
You can dial moods as often as you like. All moods are collected in the Moodsphere.

History

2019 Penfield
All that is known about the original 2019 Penfield Mood Organ comes from Philip K. Dick’s novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? You can read an excerpt of the novel below.

The 2019 Penfield was named after the pioneering neurologist, Wilder Penfield.

To use the 2019 Penfield, the user dials their desired mood using a number pad, setting the duration of the mood with an option to schedule the mood for daily playback. You can read a list of 2019 Penfield moods below.

2009 Penfield
The 2009 Penfield Mood Organ has been updated to work on the worldwide web.

The 2009 Penfield moods have been open- sourced: Rather than dialling preset moods (as in the 2019 version) each user is free to create new moods and to share them via the Moodsphere.

He sighed, defeated by her threat. “I’ll dial what’s on my schedule for today.” Examining the schedule for January 3, 2021, he saw that a businesslike professional attitude was called for. “If I dial by schedule,” he said warily, “will you agree to also?” He waited, canny enough not to commit himself until his wife had agreed to follow suit.
